Equity in Access to Drinking-water Sanitation and Hygiene: water and health

Oliver Schmoll and Valentina Padrei’s presentation looks at how nations can work towards equitable access to water. The slides include data on basic drinking-water services and sanitation services across urban and rural populations from around the world, looks at the three equity dimensions of geographical, social and economic disparities and WHO protocol on water and health. There are also tools to support national uptake of the protocol, details on how to use the equitable access score card, a case study and how the protocol on water and health compliments the EU Drinking water directive.

Promoting Health Equity: a resource to help communities address social determinants of health

This workbook help public health practicioners and partners interested in addressing social determinants of health in order to promote health and achieve health equity. Based on the October 2003 'Social Determinants of Disparities in Health: Learning from Doing' Forum and contributed to by key stakeholders with experience developing, implementing and evaluating interventions. The workbook provides the case studies of nine community initiatives that were presented to the Forum, ranging from small scale to large scale programme and policy initiatives, before giving guidance on the steps to develop a social determinants of health inequity initiative within the community. The workbook has an extensive reading list.

Covid-19 Impact Survey May 2020 Results

The results from NICVA's Covid-19 survey sent in May 2020, which was sent to all heads of VCSE sector member organisations: 17% response rate (n=174). The survey's six questions looked at the survey recipients current state of health; top three most pressing issues facing their organisation and any other issues; safety, guidance from local Council, NI Executive and departments and UK Government, support and flexibility from funders and government support; what more the government could do and whether they had experienced any drop in staff or volunteers being able to help at work.
