Mental Health and the Cost of Living Crisis: another pandemic in the making?

This policy briefing paper provides an overview of the current and likely effects of the ‘Cost-of Living Crisis’ on mental health. The briefing is informed through evidence, engagement with people with lived experience of disadvanage, staff of other third-sector organisations and anti-poverty organisations, as well as three focus groups. The cost of living crisis, UK and devolved government interventions, the mental health effects of financial crisis and the current crisis, strategies and what government, communities and individuals can do are all explored.

The report explores why the interviewees first sought food aid, the core driver of food bank use, the challenges with using the Government systems that are supposed to support them, the poverty trap and the impact of poverty on mental health.
