What We Want to Do to Improve Adult Care and Support

This briefing paper brings together the collected views of members of the Northern Ireland Confederation of Health and Social Care (NICON), putting forward their vision, core and supporting priorities to inform the public debate ahead of the May 2022 Northern Ireland Assembly Elections. They suggest four core priorties on investing in the workforce, sustainable funding, redesigning services to accessing value, and leaders being collaborative and empowered. NICON represents organisations working across Northern Ireland's integrated health and social care system and is part of the wider NHS Confederation of England and Wales.

This paper, a year on from DTNIs The Charter for Change, sets out a policy framework for community wealth building as defined by the Centre for Economic Strategies. The framework sets out how to build a new inclusive, local economy in Northern Ireland. The paper discusses the context for change - Stormont, the UK leaving the EU and Covid-19, and the overarching economic situation in Northern Ireland. The paper presents opportunities for unravelling, rather than entrenchment, of existing practises, with an updated ABCD of inclusive local economies, joined up working with clear roles for each key player, from central Government to communities, and a number of key recommendations.
