Known as the Marmot Review, the purpose of the report by Michael Marmot et al. was to propose the most effective evidence-based strategies to reduce health inequalities in England from 2010. This landmark study assesess the extent of health inequalities in England, before setting out a new way to reduce health inequalities through tackling the social determinants of health, the conditions in which we are born, grow, live, work and age, and that there was a need for universal action as there is a social gradient in health. The report sets out six core policy objectives to reduce health inequalities.
