General Information on Training in Health Literacy Focused Communication

Between 2012 and 2015, the European Intervention Research on Health Literacy of the Ageing Population in Europe (IROHLA) project aimed to improve health literacy among older adults in Europe. As part of the project, researchers developed and evaluated a health literacy-focused communication training programme involving healthcare professionals from multiple disciplines from the Netherlands, Ireland, and Italy. The document provides the research summary, key messages, information about the training, and an overview of its competencies, learning outcomes, and training programme.

Health Inequalities Annual Report 2023

The Department of Health's Annual Report 2023 on the health inequality gaps between the most well off and least well deprived areas of Northern Ireland, and within Health and Social Care Trust and Local Government District areas. Data on eight health related indicators are presented: hospital activity, diet and dental health, pregnancy and early years, alcohol, drugs and smoking, mental health and wellbeing, premature mortality, life expectancy and general health, major diseases and conditions.

This desk top scoping exercise examined academic literature, government publications and reports from the third sector, as well as sought the views and experiences of people from representative groups. The report looked at the causes and impacts of loneliness, as well as current responses to loneliness in Northern Ireland, and strategic responses to loneliness in UK and Ireland. The paper ends with a call for a loneliness strategy.
