Our Greatest Assets: final report of the IPPR commission on health and prosperity

This independent review by Frank Field, MP on poverty and life chances of children in the UK argues that life chance indicators need to be adopted, moving away from a focus on income poverty. These indicators will help measure the effectiveness of Government and the comummunity and voluntry sector in ensuring that during the Foundation Years (womb to age five) parents are helped to increase opportunities for their children, particularly for the most disavdantaged, in order to break intergenerational cycle of poverty. The report aims to establish the Foundation Years as of equal status and importance in the public mind to primary and secondary school years.

The National Men’s Health Action Plan 2017-2021 identifies four themes and twenty-eight actions, adopts a focused and strategic approach to address many of the key health topics and themes under the Framework of Actions highlighted in Healthy Ireland and the HSE priority areas. There continues to be an explicit focus on gender specific and men friendly strategies related to community engagement, capacity building, partnership and sustainability but also retains a focus on mainstreaming men’s health across a broad spectrum of policy areas.
