This article explores community development in the context of social work in Covid-19 and what social worker students and practitioners can take forward in terms of community development. The article revisits social and community development definitions, the idea of community, concept of intersectional, history of community development being taught to social worker students and offers case studies.

International Policy Guidance and Responses to Covid-19 Mental Health Recovery: rapid review

The aim of this rapid review by C. McCartan et al. was to identify, analyse and present evidence to inform the response to mental health needs arising and/or being exacerbated by Covid-19. The review gives a useful snapshot of mental health inequalities pre-Covid 19, the impact of Covid on mental health and how international government agencies and organisations were planning for their Covid-19 recovery, including key themes and risk populations. It also presents case studies of innovative international responses.

This desk top scoping exercise examined academic literature, government publications and reports from the third sector, as well as sought the views and experiences of people from representative groups. The report looked at the causes and impacts of loneliness, as well as current responses to loneliness in Northern Ireland, and strategic responses to loneliness in UK and Ireland. The paper ends with a call for a loneliness strategy.
