HSE Social Prescribing Framework: mainstreaming social prescribing with community and voluntary organisations

This framework has been developed to support the development of social prescribing within the Health Service Executive (HSE), Ireland and sets out a common approach for its delivery across the organisation. It outlines the key elements of social prescribing services and provides guidance for how the HSE can work in partnership with the community and voluntary sector in order to best meet the needs of service users. Tailored guidance is offered for a range of HSE services, highlighting the roles everyone plays in realising a collective approach.

Effective Community Development Programmes: a review of the international evidence base

John Bamber et al.'s review analysed 216 international literacy sources (evaluations, literature reviews, discussion, technical papers etc) from jurisdictions with political, social, economic and welfare similar to Ireland and explored what lessons we can learn from publicly funded large scale community development programmes, focusing on programmes structure and governance, design and service content, implementation and delivery and monitoring and evaluation.

Fair Society, Healthy Lives: the marmot review of health inequalities in England post-2010

Known as the Marmot Review, the purpose of the report by Michael Marmot et al. was to propose the most effective evidence-based strategies to reduce health inequalities in England from 2010. This landmark study assesess the extent of health inequalities in England, before setting out a new way to reduce health inequalities through tackling the social determinants of health, the conditions in which we are born, grow, live, work and age, and that there was a need for universal action as there is a social gradient in health. The report sets out six core policy objectives to reduce health inequalities.
